What should i pick between 1440p and 4K for gaming with a 3070?

I’m trying to decide between a 1440p and a 4K monitor for my new setup, and I keep hitting this wall about the performance trade-off. My 3070 handles my current games well at 1440p, but I’m worried pushing to 4K will force me into lower settings or a big GPU upgrade sooner than I’d like.

I kept it at 1440p with my 3070 and things ran smooth most of the time. When I tried 4K I had to lower a bunch of settings to keep a decent frame rate and it felt off in motion.

I did a quick side by side and measured frame rates in a couple of go to games and the 4K run dropped into the mid thirties in some scenes on my rig while 1440p stayed in the high forties.
