What should i pick between a 27-inch and a 32-inch monitor for coding and photo edit

I’m trying to decide between a 27-inch and a 32-inch monitor for my home office setup, where I mostly do coding and some light photo editing. I’m worried the bigger screen might be too overwhelming for my desk, but I also don’t want to regret missing out on the extra workspace.

I swapped in a 27 inch last year and it felt roomy enough to stack code, docs, and a couple of browser windows side by side without cramping. The 32 inch I tried at the same desk was just too big; I had to sit farther back, and I started tilting my head to read the far right windows. If you sit close to the desk edge, the 32 can feel like a wall. For photo edits, the extra real estate is nice, but not worth the extra distance in a small room. If you go 32, a stand that lets you tilt and move the screen helps a lot.

Honestly, I’m torn. I got a 32 inch to future proof, but found myself constantly narrowing windows and stepping back to read text. I ended up switching back to 27 and keeping a compact ultrawide for the side. On the bright side the 32 inch gave a nice canvas for edits, but I spent more time rearranging windows than typing. In the end I realized the desk space was the bottleneck, not the need for more pixels.

Are you sure the issue is screen size or is it the ability to manage windows? For me the problem wasn't the size so much as how I sit and how far away I am. If you have enough chair support and can sit back, the bigger one helps; otherwise it can feel like a crowd.

I drift a little here but tried a 32 inch with a desk arm and it helped with positioning. Still, the feeling of being immersed sometimes faded when I edited photos because I was constantly turning my head to check color swatches. I guess the takeaway is not just size but how you actually work fonts shortcuts and window layout. Not a clear answer, just what happened.
