What should I pick for notes and research: Obsidian or Notion?
#1
I’m trying to decide between Obsidian and Notion for organizing all my project notes and research, but I’m stuck. Obsidian feels faster and more private with local files, while Notion’s collaboration is so smooth. I just can’t tell if locking everything into one ecosystem is a mistake long-term.

I switched to Obsidian last year and it felt fast and private because the files stay on my computer. I like the offline access and the speed of search in a big vault. Sharing is clumsy because I have to export or copy into another tool, so I still use Notion for team stuff sometimes.

Notion made collaboration smooth for my team we have comments and shared editing in real time and it keeps us aligned. The file structure is a bit slower to navigate and I worry about being stuck in one tool if the company changes pricing or availability.

I tried both in parallel and now I keep a private Obsidian vault for notes and a separate Notion space for projects with the team. It creates friction when I need to link something from one system to another and I am not sure if the problem is the tools or my process.

Do you actually need real time collaboration every day or is occasional access enough?
