What should i play after disco elysium for a similar detective rpg experience?

I just finished my first playthrough of Disco Elysium and I’m honestly a bit lost on what to play next. That game’s unique blend of pure role-playing and detective work has completely rewired my expectations, and now everything in my library feels either too combat-focused or too shallow in its dialogue and choices.

That post-Disco Elysium itch is real. I chased something similar by looping into Planescape: Torment, and Torment: Tides of Numenera. The writing can be dense, the choices feel consequential even when you fail, and the tone stays moral gray. Planescape has that old school adventure vibe, Torment the newer one leans into existential monologue. Both scratch the same nerve without turning into a pure grind.

I tried Pillars of Eternity after finishing Disco and hoped the dialogue would carry me the same way, but the combat scenes kept stealing the spotlight and I lost the thread. Not bad, just different pace. If you want something shorter but still talky, there are indie visual novels that land the mood with fewer moving parts.

I also peeked at Sunless Sea and Sunless Skies for mood plus choice without a ton of combat, and they do stick with you, though the systems are wonky and you die a lot of small, silly deaths. Obra Dinn scratches the detective itch with clean puzzle rhythm.

Maybe the real problem isn’t finding another game like it but needing a different pace or mood. Are you craving something with the same weighty dialogue or something shorter that still sticks after you close the laptop?
