What should i tackle first to move my five-year plan forward this quarter?

I’ve been trying to break down my big five-year vision into actual monthly steps, but I keep getting stuck on what to prioritize this coming quarter. It feels like if I choose the wrong focus, I’ll waste months, but not choosing anything is just as bad. How do you decide which piece of the puzzle to work on first when everything seems connected?

I’ve been there. I finally forced myself to pick one thing with a visible checker—some weekly signal I could actually see. It wasn’t perfect, but it gave me a six week sprint to run and a real checkpoint to compare notes. After that I could decide what to double down on.

I tried lining up every quarter to the five year vision and it just turned into a maze. I grabbed the most obvious piece and started measuring days, not weeks or months. Still felt messy, but at least there was momentum.

Are you sure the problem is the priorities and not the way the goal is framed? Maybe the bottleneck isn’t the next focus but how we define progress, or who needs to be pulled in.

I remember one time I dumped the long list into a backlog and did a two hour test on a tiny piece. Results were mixed, and I learned what not to chase, which oddly helped me pick the next tiny step.
