What should you do when fans get defensive about a star's new movie?

Has anyone else noticed how weirdly defensive some fans get when you point out that their favorite star's new movie is just plain bad? I saw it this weekend and thought the performance was totally flat, but saying that online got me piled on by their stans saying I "just don't get the artistry." Am I missing something, or is it okay to separate the person from a genuinely lackluster project?

Yeah I felt the same this weekend I called the movie flat and the room got loud with defense it seems people want to shield the name of a star more than the work

One time I tried to separate the person from the project and it felt clumsy I looked at the scenes that worked and those that did not and still felt unsure if the failure was in the script or the direction

Maybe the problem is not the film but how we watch now does the hype around a trailer color how we judge the final cut?

Last week I wandered into another chat about a different film and this debate bled into my notes about pacing I tried to measure if a flat moment was a misstep or just a mood before I circle back to how we rate a star
