What signals that I'm ready for a marketing promotion or a senior role?

I’ve been in my marketing role for almost five years and feel like I’ve hit a ceiling, but I’m not sure if I should push for a promotion here or look for a senior role elsewhere. My main hesitation is that I don’t know how to honestly assess my readiness for that next level of responsibility, especially when it comes to managing larger budgets and a team.

Been there I felt stuck after five years too I did a simple inventory of what I owned budget wise and what I led with people and process Then I mapped three big budget lines and a couple of campaigns and noted the decisions I owned If you cant point to end to end ownership it can be a weak signal

Another angle is the culture and the pipeline not just your skills I wondered if the problem is visibility more than ability If you ask for a six month stretch project or a pilot on a bigger budget you can test the fit without a title change This is where you learn what you actually want to do under pressure Would that kind of test help you see the gap

Its easy to feel ready and not be ready at all I have had moments where I thought I lived in the numbers and still felt unsure If the team grows bigger will you hold timing and priorities or does that scare you

I did try asking for feedback and I got mixed signals The talk was about fit and timing which helped but I left with more questions Then I wandered to whether chasing a title is the right move right now and I focused on learning in place
