What step am i missing to fix purple face textures with follower mod load order?
#1
I’ve been trying to get a custom follower mod to work with my existing load order, but every time I install it, the character’s face textures are just a horrible purple mess. I’ve checked that my mesh and texture paths are correct in the mod files, and I’ve run the tools to generate facegen data, but it still happens. Has anyone else run into this and figured out what step I’m probably missing?

I ran into the same purple mess after a couple of installs. For me it was the texture path getting reset when the mod loaded after other texture replacers. I fixed by pointing the follower’s texture folder to the exact path the mod uses and reloading, and the faces stopped being that eerie purple.

I tried regenerating facegen too, and it helped sometimes, but if the mod changes the head mesh naming, you still get random purple textures. I ended up re-running the facegen after the mesh was updated and replacing the generated files in the mod folder.

Could the issue be the load order itself or a conflicting texture pack? I had a similar thing and it cleared up when I shuffled LOOT a bit and let the follower load earlier.

One time I drifted into tweaking a nonessential setting and forgot to back up. When I came back, the purple was gone for a while, then it came back after I added a second mod, so I stopped chasing it and started a clean profile.
