What timing cues do pros like G2 and T1 use to control the map?

I’ve been trying to improve my map control in pro-level matches, but I keep getting punished for overextending during the mid-game. How do teams like G2 or T1 seem to know the exact moment to push their advantage without getting caught out? It feels like I’m missing a specific timing or piece of information.

I have found that timing comes from feel and small data bits rather than a big plan. We watched how teams used space and then tried to push when we had a safe five versus four. It still felt wrong some rounds.

We did a drill to map two power spots on the map and we only pushed when a teammate confirmed and the enemy was trapped rotating. It helped but there were reads that were off.

Could it be that the real problem is not the timing but something else like how you define success in mid rounds?

We had a game where we overextended into a crossfire and got punished hard. We learned the value of a retreat call when the map tilt shifted and we lost map control. We kept the footage and tried to pull back and reset our stance.
