What top goes best with wide-leg trousers?
#1
I just bought a pair of wide-leg trousers that I love, but I’m really struggling to figure out what kind of top to wear with them. Every time I try a fitted shirt it feels too severe, but my usual loose blouses just make my whole silhouette look boxy and frumpy.

I had the same problem and learned that tops with drape beat stiff fits. I reach for a satin blouse or a knit that skims the body rather than clamps to it, and it feels more natural with wide legs.

I once wore a cropped knit tucked in at the front and left the back loose; the line stayed honest and the trousers read longer.

Do you wear them high on the rise or mid rise?

A belt over a loose blouse to cue the shape helps me without making it look tight.

Layering with a longline cardigan or a blazer over a soft top seems to balance the silhouette without shouting.

Sometimes I just toss on a plain tee and let the bottoms do the talking, and it feels oddly liberating.
