What tops go best with wide-leg pants to balance my silhouette?

I just bought a pair of wide-leg trousers that I love, but I'm really struggling to find tops that balance them out without making my whole silhouette look boxy. What do you usually wear on top with this kind of pant?

Honestly, I keep it simple: a fitted tucked in blouse or a slim knit that hits at the hip. It creates a clean line and lets the wide leg read as intentional rather than boxy.

I've tried loose tops with high waist wide legs and it just swallows my silhouette, so I go for something with shape near the waist—a belt, a tuck, or a structured layer on top. It changes how the pants fall a lot.

Sometimes a cropped piece helps; like a short cardigan or a shirt that ends at the top of the pants, especially with pointed heels or ankle boots. It makes the leg look longer and the frame less blocky.

I did experiment with length and shoes a bit, and I kept circling back to the idea that the drama is in the shoes. A blocky loafer or chunky boot can ruin the balance, so I lean toward pointy toes or slim sandals if it’s warm. Not sure that’s the real problem, though; maybe I’m chasing the wrong issue entirely.
