What true crime podcast actually digs into psychology instead of gore?

I’ve been trying to find a good true crime podcast that doesn’t just focus on the gore but really digs into the psychology of the people involved. I listened to one recently that spent a whole episode on the perpetrator's background and it completely changed how I saw the case, but now I’m struggling to find another one with that same depth.

Yeah I know that feeling. I chased shows that felt like a case file on a person instead of just a checklist of crimes. The seasons that really dug into upbringing, the environment, the turning points, they stuck with me longer than the gore stuff.

I started taking notes, counting minutes spent on motive versus courtroom drama, and even drew a tiny map of how characters connected. A few episodes promised depth but barely touched the why and just chased suspects, which was kind of disappointing.

Do you think the problem is the format or the story choice?

One time I drifted into an episode that started with a random unrelated case, then tried to loop it back to the main perpetrator, and I ended up thinking maybe the depth comes from the host’s own focus more than the case. I did keep listening though, hoping the big reveal would land, and it never did.
