When did this sci-fi franchise stop taking risks for callbacks?

In my work conducting security assessments, I consistently see organizations missing certain cybersecurity best practices that could significantly improve their security posture. Some of these are basic, while others are more advanced but equally important.

A good data protection guide should address these common gaps, but many organizations either don't have comprehensive guides or don't follow them consistently. The basics like patch management and access controls are often implemented poorly.

What cybersecurity best practices do you see organizations overlooking most frequently? And how can we better communicate the importance of these practices in our data protection guide recommendations?

So I finally watched the new movie in that big sci-fi franchise last night, and honestly, I’m just left feeling a bit hollow. It looks incredible, but it felt more like a series of callbacks than its own story. It’s got me wondering if anyone else misses when these continuations took bigger creative swings, instead of just feeling like a polished homage.

Yeah, the visuals were stunning, but it felt like a tour through a gallery of callbacks rather than a story that stood on its own.

I kept hoping for a real creative swing, but it mostly stacked nostalgia and more callbacks on top of itself.

I did try to look past the polish and ask what new angle they were actually pursuing, and I came away uncertain if that angle even exists.

Is the real issue that we're chasing nostalgia too hard, or is there a bigger gap in the franchise’s risk appetite?

I actually kept a note watching it twice, timing the run time and counting how many scenes echoed older films. By the end it read like a checklist more than a fresh idea.

The pacing felt uneven, and I drifted a bit thinking about whether the problem is the story or just my mood tonight, but the visuals still carried me.
