When do functional GI disorder flare-ups happen if not linked to foods?
#1
I’ve been dealing with what my doctor calls a functional gastrointestinal disorder for a while now, but the bloating and discomfort seem completely random. One week I’m fine, and the next it feels like my digestion just stops for no reason I can pinpoint. Has anyone else found a pattern to these flare-ups that isn’t related to specific foods?

I've had days like that too—mostly fine, and then suddenly the bloating and gut discomfort come back for a week with no clear trigger.

I started tracking not just food but sleep, stress, and how active I was, and the flare days sometimes lined up with poor sleep or busy weeks rather than meals.

A few weeks I swapped in a tiny routine: a short walk after meals, steady hydration, and a regular bedtime. It helped me some days, but other times the pattern stayed random.

Is it possible the problem isn’t strictly GI and we’re chasing patterns because stress or sleep are masking what’s really going on?
