When does a simple t-shirt collection become clutter in a capsule wardrobe?
#1
I’ve been trying to reduce my wardrobe to just the essentials, but I keep getting stuck on my collection of plain t-shirts. I own nearly twenty of them in various neutral shades, and while I tell myself they all serve a purpose, I know that’s not really true. How do you decide when something so similar and functional crosses the line from a practical capsule item into just being excess?

I used to have about 20 plain tees and every one seemed necessary until I tried them on with real outfits for a week. I kept the ones that felt good in the first moment of putting them on and that worked with most of my bottoms. The rest got donated after a week of not reaching for them.

I kept a tight set now two blacks two whites a charcoal and a heather shade that matches almost everything. The rest stayed in the drawer and I forgot they existed until I found them again and hated how they looked with my jeans.

I am starting to wonder if the problem is not the shirts but the whole closet and how I judge what goes with what. The kept set feels safe but not exciting and I end up grabbing the same one every day.

Is the real issue maybe not the tees but how I measure use and whether I want a little variety inside a capsule?
