When should I record home blood pressure readings for my doctor?
#1
I’ve been trying to get a better handle on my blood pressure readings at home, but I’m confused about when to actually take them. My doctor said to check it in the morning before my medication, but sometimes I forget and do it later after coffee, and the numbers are all over the place. I’m not sure which readings I should even be writing down to show her.

Yeah, I get the confusion. My doctor also said to do it first thing in the morning before meds. If I skip that and test later after coffee, my blood pressure readings swing all over and I start doubting myself. I kept a simple log for a couple weeks: date, time, whether I had coffee, whether I’d taken meds, and the reading. It helped me see that mornings before meds were usually steadier, even if not perfect.

One thing I learned is that consistency matters more than chasing the perfect number. Some mornings I’m rushed, stand up, or my arm angle isn’t right and the reading jumps. I started a quick log: time, which arm, cuff fit, and whether I’d had caffeine or exercised in the hour before. It didn’t fix everything, but it helped explain the weird days and gave my clinic something to look at.

This is where I get stuck: maybe the issue isn’t the coffee or the meds but whether I’m measuring the same way each time. I tried measuring only on weekdays and got different stories than weekends. It’s frustrating and I’m not sure what really matters.

Do you think I should show an average over a week, a few mornings before meds, or just the highest and lowest numbers when I talk to the doctor?
