Where can i find a low-key local walking group for casual pace and chat?

I’m trying to find a local walking group that’s more about a steady pace and conversation than serious hiking, but everything I find online seems to be for super-fit trail enthusiasts. Has anyone had luck finding something more low-key, maybe through a community center bulletin board or word of mouth?

I looked for something similar last year and kept getting hit with easy cardio groups that felt sweaty even for talk. I finally found a flyer on the library bulletin board for a weekly park stroll paced for conversation. No fancy signup, just show up with comfy shoes and a willingness to chat. It drew a mix of neighbors, a couple of folks with mobility needs, and a student who wanted to get out.

One friend suggested it too and I ended up posting on Nextdoor about a no-frills walking group. A few neighbors replied and we met at the library steps, then wandered a slow loop and talked about groceries, kids, and the local café scene more than miles.

Do you think the real snag is that people who want easygoing chats don’t know where to post or what to call it, so it feels like nothing exists?

I tried once to join a park loop and we got pulled into a coffee stop halfway, which slowed the pace to a crawl. It was oddly freeing to talk about mundane things in a sunny corner while still staying within sight of the path. Not a tidy solution, but it felt doable and low pressure, which was the point.
