Where should I place mesh wifi nodes for full coverage in a two-story home?

I’m trying to set up a new mesh Wi-Fi system in my two-story house, but I’m not sure where to place the nodes for the best signal. I put the main router in my home office upstairs and the first satellite unit in the living room directly below it, but I’m still getting weak spots in the kitchen at the back of the house.

I had a similar setup. I moved the first satellite to a spot halfway between the office and the kitchen, on the same level, and the dead spot shrank a bit. It helps when the unit isn’t tucked behind furniture.

Sometimes the back of the house just eats signal because of thick walls and big appliances. I learned to avoid placing nodes behind a fridge or inside a cabinet.

I ran a few quick speed tests after each move. The numbers were all over the place, so I stopped chasing perfection and added a second satellite at a central point.

If you’re still stuck, do you have a second outlet near the staircase or a place you can try temporarily? A quick test by moving a unit there for a day gave me a clue.
