Where should i place the call to action in poster layouts?

I’ve been trying to create a strong visual hierarchy in my poster layouts, but I keep getting stuck on where to place the call to action. No matter what I try, it either feels too dominant and kills the flow or gets completely lost in the other elements. I’m wondering if my typographic scale is working against me.

I’ve wrestled with this too. I found that when the CTA was shouting at the viewer, the rest of the poster fell silent. I tried to respect the typographic scale by dialing back the headline a notch and giving the CTA a quieter color with a touch more line height. The flow felt more natural and the CTA didn’t bulldoze the page, though it still wasn’t perfect.

One time I rushed a layout and the CTA was fine on the screen but the image weight pulled the eye away. I wound up grouping elements with a loose grid and letting white space steer the gaze toward the CTA. It helped a little, but it still felt like a balancing act.

Could the real problem be the reading order? I had a poster where the CTA sat near the bottom but people always looked at the photo first.

I drifted into color experiments, then back to grayscale, and finally tested a darker gray for the CTA text on a light background. It felt more legible when the contrast was subtle, and the CTA still didn’t dominate. It’s messy, but it’s what I saw in practice.
