Why are search results showing AI-generated summaries at the top?
#1
I keep noticing that my searches for things like "best local hiking trails" or "how to fix a dripping tap" are suddenly full of AI-generated summaries at the top of the page. It feels like I'm being handed a pre-packaged answer instead of a list of sources to explore myself. Has anyone else felt their search habits changing because of this, or am I just being overly nostalgic for the old list of blue links?

Yeah, I’ve started noticing those AI style summaries at the top too. It feels convenient but it also nudges me toward a single page instead of a list of sources.

I miss the old blue links and the long list of places I could actually click through.

Sometimes the top snippet pulls from sites that aren’t the ones I want, and I end up chasing the wrong thing.

I’ve started scrolling past the snippet and scanning dates and sources to see where real reviews live.

Do you think this is a deliberate change by search engines or just how my queries are being interpreted these days?

I’ve been bookmarking a few trusted hiking blogs and using site:domain tricks to force real pages, which helps sometimes.

I get annoyed and then go back to basic searches, but the habit is already changing how I skim results, even if not by much.
