Why did my auto insurance premium jump after renewal despite a clean record?
#1
I just got my renewal notice and my premium has shot up by almost forty percent, with the explanation citing a general increase in claims costs. I’m a safe driver with no at-fault incidents, so this feels like a massive hike for just staying on the road. Has anyone else seen their policy jump this much recently without any change in their own driving record?

Yep mine went up almost as much, and I’m a safe driver with no at fault incidents either. The agent said it’s a broad rise in claims costs and inflation, not something I did. It still stings when you’ve barely changed your life on the road.

I tried bumping the deductible and trimming some extra coverages, and I did shave a bit off the monthly price, but it wasn’t dramatic. If you’re carrying full coverage, a tweak there might help more than you expect.

Could it be they’re rating the area differently now, or reclassifying the car model? It feels like my own driving record stayed clean but the numbers in the system shifted.

I’m going to call my agent and ask for a line by line breakdown of the change, then shop a couple of quotes to compare. If nothing else it’s good leverage for negotiating.
