Why did my bus tap-to-pay charge more than the advertised rate?
#1
I’m trying to figure out if I’m missing something with the new tap-to-pay readers on our city buses. I tapped my phone like I do for the subway, but the fare seemed higher than the advertised flat rate, and the driver just shrugged when I asked. Has anyone else noticed their card being charged a different amount than expected?

I had a similar thing on our city bus. Tapped my phone and the fare came out higher than the advertised flat rate. The driver just shrugged when I asked what happened.

I checked my wallet’s ride history after the trip and there was a single charge that didn’t match the posted fare. It didn’t show any reason for the bump, and it wasn’t a transfer I recognized.

Could the real problem be that the fare structure is confusing rather than a reader glitch?

I’ve thought about asking the agency or posting in a local forum, but I keep getting stuck on whether I’m misreading their rules or if there’s a bug.
