Why did that indie film ballad get snubbed for best original song?

I just saw the nominations for Best Original Song and I’m honestly a bit confused why that one ballad from the indie film got passed over. It felt like such a lock for a nod, especially after it swept the critics’ circle awards last season.

I rewatched the list and that indie ballad stuck with me too, but it felt like it needed a moment on the stage that it didn’t get. The vibe was quiet, not a stadium moment, and the Oscars tend to lean toward something that breaks through visually as well as musically.

Honestly it surprised me too, because it swept critics' circle last year and everyone assumed momentum would carry. Maybe the Best Original Song category favors bigger, punchier songs or songs with a clear pop crossover, not the intimate indie ballad.

Do you think the real issue is campaign visibility rather than quality, or is there some policy at work that keeps certain indie tracks out?

I heard whispers about timing and eligibility, like the song missing a premier date or something that bumped it off the list, but I never got a solid answer and I stopped chasing it.
