Why did the ending of the new sci-fi movie leave the simulation unclear?

I just watched the new sci-fi movie everyone's talking about and I'm still trying to figure out the ending. The main character's final choice to stay in the simulation has me wondering if I missed some earlier clue about the true nature of his reality. Did anyone else feel like the rules of that world were intentionally left vague, or was there a clearer explanation I just didn't catch?

Came out of it feeling the world’s rules were left intentionally vague. The final choice to stay hit hard, but I’m not sure what exactly it changes. Tiny glitches flashed in my memory—nothing concrete, more like I noticed when something felt off.

I think there were hints, but nothing clean enough to pin down. Memories, doubt, and a few lines that could be read two ways. It seemed more about perception than a hard sci fi reset of the universe.

Maybe the problem isn’t the rules at all but what the character believes about them, and whether that belief would matter outside the simulation. Still, I keep asking if that vagueness was a feature or an afterthought.

I watched it again tonight and paid attention to one scene only. The color tone shifts twice in a way that felt linked to his choice, like the film was signaling something isn’t supposed to be literal. It didn’t spell it out, just nudged me to think about control.
