I just saw the final domestic total for that big fantasy movie and it’s way lower than the early tracking suggested. I was really expecting it to cross a much higher threshold based on its opening weekend and the franchise name. Makes me wonder if the audience just didn’t show up after the first wave, or if the legs were worse than everyone predicted.

Yeah, same here. The opening weekend felt huge, but the follow up week cooled off fast.

A friend on the theater floor said Friday sales were strong and then the seats weren't filling up as the weekend waned.

I looked at a couple of similar franchises and the drop looked sharper than expected, like the buzz burned bright but ran out.

Maybe the marketing spoke to the wrong crowd after the first wave, and people who bought early didn't get hooked by the liftoff.

Could be timing or competing releases, or streaming deals that changed the value proposition, hard to tell.

I keep going back and forth—was the real issue the audience reach or the movie's pacing?
