Why do 90s Nickelodeon shows like Pete & Pete vanish from streaming?

I was trying to show my kids an episode of *The Adventures of Pete & Pete* the other day, and I couldn’t find it anywhere on the main streaming services. It got me wondering, what happens to all those great 90s Nickelodeon shows that just seem to vanish? Are they stuck in some kind of rights limbo, or does no one think there’s an audience for them anymore?

I spent a weekend digging through old forums and ended up briefly finding a couple Pete and Pete episodes on a dusty DVD set someone sold online. Licensing and catalog turnover are real road blocks.

It feels like there is a mix of rights and business moves that push these shows out of daily rotation and into archives. Some studios repackage older stuff but many titles stay quiet.

Could the real issue be that the audience for those late 90s shows is spread across platforms and fans just move on faster than the catalogs can respond?

Sometimes I show my kid a clip and the vibe is off so the plan to share the whole show stalls and we drift to something more current.
