Why do a few members dominate threads, and how can we encourage more participation?

I keep noticing the same handful of members dominating the replies in every popular thread, and it’s starting to make the whole forum feel a bit closed off. I wonder if this is just the natural way things go or if there’s something we could do to encourage more of the quieter folks to jump in.

Yeah, I notice that too. It started after a few folks started replying fast and the rest just fell quiet. Momentum, I guess, but it does feel a little closed off.

I tried a low bar open question and I explicitly invited new folks to chime in, even named a couple of newcomers who I saw lurking. I did see a couple of new usernames pop up in that thread, so maybe small nudges help a bit.

Is the problem really engagement or is it something else like topic framing? Maybe the topics we pick end up rewarding the same voices, and quiet folks don't see a path in.

I did a tiny test, posted a one line prompt and left it for a day without tagging anyone, and the shift was negligible. It made me doubt whether the fix is in the culture, not just prompts.
