Why do actors disconnect from social media during filming and lose momentum?
#1
I was watching an interview with that actor from the new fantasy show, and he mentioned how he has to completely disconnect from all social media for weeks when filming starts. I get why they do it, but doesn't that backfire? It seems like you'd lose all momentum with fans just when your project is getting hype.

I’ve tried a similar silence during a brutal shoot. I lasted a week, then caved and checked in. It was oddly freeing for the work, but the day after I posted felt strange, like stepping back onto a moving sidewalk.

From people I know in PR for fantasy series, the move to go dark on social media is partly about not feeding rumors and spoilers. It can feel like you're trading immediate momentum for a cleaner rollout later, but it's not guaranteed to pay off.

As a fan, when an actor disappears from feeds before a hype cycle, I start scanning for tiny signals in interviews or trailers. Sometimes it makes the big reveal land harder; other times it just makes me feel more distant.

Once I saw a promo clip shot during a break, looked backstage realness. It reminded me maybe the problem isn’t the blackout but how we measure hype and trust. Still, I can’t shake the feeling that the long gap between tease and premiere is part of the pain.
