Why do comments on wholesome animal rescue videos get so toxic?
#1
Has anyone else noticed how weirdly aggressive people get in the comments of those wholesome animal rescue videos? I was just watching one where a guy saved a kitten from a drain, and the top thread was a furious debate about the ethics of filming it instead of helping faster. It feels like the nicer the original clip, the more hostile the reaction underneath it becomes.

I’ve noticed it too. The rescue clip feels warm, then the top comments pivot to judging motives and filming ethics like a courtroom. I skimmed the first page once and counted five comments debating filming vs helping.

Sometimes I think the nicer the clip, the louder the debate about what ‘right’ looks like, and I end up reading two dozen voices I don’t know.

Maybe the real problem is not the kitten but how we measure virtue by comments; is that even the point?

I tried to post a calm note once about the good deed, and it felt like the thread flipped, people arguing about why we should not talk about filming; I gave up and moved on.
