Why do hidden object puzzles always hide the key so well?

I’ve been trying to get better at spotting the hidden object in those online puzzle pictures, but I keep getting stuck on one where I swear I’ve scanned every inch and still can’t find the tiny key. Does anyone else just stare until your eyes go blurry and you start doubting it’s even there?

Yep I get that. I stared till my eyes felt fizzy and started doubting it was even there. I finally spot it when I crank up brightness and re-scan the shadows, noticing a tiny color shift at the edge.

I tried flipping the image and zooming in and out, felt silly but I kept at it. Still nothing, so I stepped away for a day and came back with fresh eyes, which helped a little.

Sometimes I wonder if the whole thing is just an illusion and the little key is a trick of perspective rather than a real thing to click; you ever feel that way?

Honestly, I’ve had the same vibe—stare, chase, and still nothing. Sometimes I just move on, then circle back later and find something small I overlooked.
