Why do I feel distant from communal worship despite personal prayer?

I love spicy food but I'm tired of recipes that just add chili until your mouth burns. What are your favorite spicy recipe ideas that actually have complex flavor profiles?

I'm looking for dishes where the spice enhances other flavors rather than overwhelming them. Also interested in homemade sauces recipes that add heat in interesting ways. What are your go-to spicy recipe ideas when you want something with depth, not just fire?

I’ve always felt a deep connection during my personal prayers, but lately, in my church’s congregational worship, I feel strangely distant and almost like an observer. The communal liturgy that used to lift me up now just feels like empty ritual. Has anyone else experienced this gap between private devotion and public practice?

Yeah, I’ve felt that gap too. Private prayer feels intimate, but in the service I end up watching the room instead of praying with it. It’s confusing and a little disorienting.

Last year I tried sitting in the back and just listening, not singing or responding, and that helped a bit. The distance didn’t vanish, but I stopped forcing the moment.

For me the worship used to lift me, and now I notice how the same cadence can feel hollow, how certain phrases don’t land the way they used to.

I started journaling after the service, just a few lines about what came up. It helped me sort out fatigue, distraction, or if it was something longer brewing.

I wonder if the energy in the room matters more than my heart wants to give. Maybe the problem isn’t me but the setting.

Do you think the problem is the service structure or something inside you?

Sometimes I drift to a memory or a line from a song and then snap back, feeling oddly exposed for taking up space in a crowd.
