Why do I hesitate to send the first message in a group chat?

Having gone through a difficult breakup before my current relationship, I know how challenging it can be to heal and move forward. I'm looking for breakup advice that's actually helpful rather than just clichés.

Some breakup advice that helped me: allowing yourself to grieve the relationship without judgment, limiting contact with your ex (at least initially), and focusing on rebuilding your own life rather than just waiting to feel better. Therapy can also be really helpful for processing everything.

What breakup advice have you found most helpful? I'm especially interested in advice for dealing with the practical aspects of breakup (shared friends, social media, etc.) as well as the emotional healing.

I’ve noticed that when I’m in a group chat, I almost always wait for someone else to send the first message of the day, even if I’m online and thinking about the conversation. It’s like I’m worried my message will be ignored or that I’ll seem too eager. Does anyone else get stuck in this weird hesitation?

Yeah I do that too. I sit online and wait for someone else to start, worried I’ll be ignored or come off as overeager.

I once typed a quick hello and sent it anyway, and it got two replies after a few minutes and then it kept rolling. Not as dramatic as I feared.

Sometimes it feels like if I start, the whole thread will stall unless everyone chimes in, so I stay quiet and watch the clock.

I tried a tiny experiment last week, set a reminder to post in the morning, and yeah it still felt risky.

There are days the chat is so quiet I almost forget it exists until someone finally sends something and then I panic I wasted the space.

Honestly I wonder if the real issue is the vibe of the group, not my courage—maybe some people don't want a big back and forth in that chat.

Do you think the problem is how we read tone in chat, or is there something about the group that makes this hesitation bigger?
