Why do i keep opening Instagram out of habit?
#1
I’ve been trying to cut back on my screen time, but I keep finding myself opening Instagram out of pure habit, scrolling for a few minutes, and then feeling like I just wasted that time. Has anyone else managed to break that automatic reflex to just tap the app icon without even thinking?

I started using the built in screen time widget and set a 15 minute daily cap for the app. I hit the limit a few times, but I still found myself tapping it and scrolling before realizing. I ended up moving the app to a less obvious page on my home screen and even hiding it in a folder; that helped a little after a week.

I've tried that too, but the reflex is stubborn. Some days I just pick up the phone and open it without thinking. I tried replacing the habit with a five minute walk or a quick stretch, and sometimes that worked, sometimes not.

I did one thing that felt dumb but worked a bit: I asked a friend to hide the app from me and left a little note on the phone asking why. The result is I still opened it sometimes, but not as often. Also I started carrying a small paperback around, which somehow filled the tiny craving better than doomscrolling.

Do you think the real issue is boredom or loneliness, and the app is just the easy dopamine hit?
