Why do I reach for my phone automatically and how can I reduce my screen time?

I’ve been trying to cut down on my screen time lately, but I keep finding myself picking up my phone out of pure habit, even when I don’t really want to. It’s like my hand just moves on its own. Does anyone else feel that automatic pull, and have you found a way to make it less mindless?

Yep that pull is real. I started counting how many times I grab my phone in a day and the number was wild. Then I tried leaving it in another room during meals and for a few evenings and the number dropped a bit.

Maybe the real problem is not the phone but the moment I reach for something to do with my hands. I tried turning off most notifications and that helped a touch but I still reach for it out of habit.

I set a rule when the phone sits within reach I give myself a five minute timer away from the screen It sounds silly but it changed my default a little.

I once started carrying a tiny notebook to jot ideas when I felt that pull but I caught myself using it as an excuse to check the phone again Anyway the pull shows up even when I am not bored
