Why do I still feel relief and anxiety after deactivating Instagram?
#1
I finally deactivated my Instagram account last week, and honestly, I'm already feeling this weird mix of relief and anxiety. I keep reflexively reaching for my phone to scroll, but there's nothing there, and I'm not sure if I'm missing out or finally free.

That mix is real. I did something similar after stepping away from Instagram for a while. At first the silence sounded loud, like you are listening to your own brain instead of the feed. Relief shows up in small moments, then a bit of anxiety sneaks in when there is no constant ping to anchor you.

I kept reflexively grabbing the phone for days too, even when nothing helpful was there. I started measuring it as a habit loop and tried tiny wins to break out like drinking water or a five minute walk.

Do you think the problem is the app itself or the habit of scrolling?

I did a little notebook of micro wins for the days I would have scrolled and then forgot about it and wandered around the block. It felt awkward and unfinished but it did shift the day a bit.
