Why do local news searches keep pulling in global stories?
#1
I keep noticing that my searches for local news are getting filled with stories from the other side of the world. It feels like my search results are being shaped by a global consensus on what's important, and I’m missing what’s happening in my own town. Has anyone else felt their local perspective getting drowned out like this?

Yeah, I notice it too. My local news used to fill the morning with town council notes and school updates, and now the feed keeps tossing in global stories between the local bits. Feels like the algorithm chases engagement instead of what's actually happening down the street.

I tried setting location filters, and even then the top results were mostly international stuff. I did a rough tally last week and local pieces dropped from about half to a quarter of what I was seeing.

I keep wondering if I'm the one leaning toward the global chatter or if the feed simply learned that world news gets more clicks. I notice when I click a local story, the next five are not local.

Are you sure the problem is the feeds, or is it possible the local beat just isn't being published as much anymore?

Anyway, I did subscribe to a town bulletin board for a while, and it helped for a couple of days before the stream flooded again.
