Why do modern cartoon revivals feel hollow compared to the original?

I just watched the new season of that 90s cartoon reboot and I’m left feeling weirdly hollow, like it’s technically the same characters and world but the soul is missing. Does anyone else get this specific disappointment where a revival just feels like a polished shell going through the motions?

I know that hollow feeling. It’s like the characters are wearing the same faces but the room they’re in doesn’t feel inhabited.

I gave it a fair shake, watched a handful with no nostalgia goggles, and it still felt polished on the surface but empty inside.

Maybe the problem isn’t the show at all but how we’re judging revivals now; maybe the old rhythm can’t be bottled twice. Is the real problem that we want exact copies, or that a new version can’t be its own thing?

I tried stepping away mid season, did something else for a day, and when I came back I found I cared less, which was oddly freeing.
