Why do my online comments turn sarcastic and how do i dial it back?

I’ve noticed that my online comments have become a lot more sarcastic and dismissive than I am in person, especially when I’m tired. It’s like a switch flips when I’m scrolling, and I’ll write something sharp just to feel clever in the moment, even though I’d never say it face-to-face. I’m starting to wonder if this is just how I am now, or if the way we talk in these spaces is reshaping my actual personality.

Yep. I notice it too when I’m running on fumes. late scrolling, I drop a sharp quip and feel momentarily clever, then sleep on it and cringe. I started a tiny experiment: I don’t post after 10 pm, leave drafts, and sometimes delete a reply the next morning.

It’s not just me being mean, I think the chase for quick feedback makes it addictive. The more a snappy line gets likes, the more I want the next one. I turned off notifications for a week and kept a log of how my tone shifted in replies.

Are we sure the problem is us, or is the space shaping us? Maybe fatigue and the platform context matter more than some fixed personality trait.

I’ve also noticed I drift off topic and then circle back, and I’m not sure if that’s just me or the conversation pulling me in. I did try taking a day off social media once, not much changed for the world, but I felt oddly lighter for a while, and then it faded.
