Why do my searches feel like I'm asking Google to finish my thoughts?

I’ve noticed my searches have become weirdly specific lately, like I’m asking Google to finish my thoughts instead of just looking something up. It feels less like searching and more like trying to have a conversation with an algorithm, and I’m not sure if that’s just me or if something has actually changed in how we use these tools.

Yeah I notice it too. Lately my searches feel like I’m finishing my own sentences for the algorithm. I start with a simple query and somehow end up with a chain of qualifiers, almost like I’m drafting a prompt instead of asking a question. It’s not just me.

I tried resisting a bit and it just followed me anyway. I’ll type “best way to…” and somehow the results feel tailored to a conversation, not a fact check. I keep thinking maybe the UI nudges me toward a dialogue mode with the machine, and I get sucked into it.

I did experiment with turning off auto-complete for a week and wrote down what I actually searched for versus what the tool suggested. Found that when I started from a clean, short prompt, the results were sharper, but then the system would nudge me back into a longer thought thread. It still felt clumsy to me.

Is the real issue the habit we’ve developed of narrating the thought process rather than just asking for data?
