Why do online conversations feel so shallow and transactional lately?
#1
I’ve noticed that my online conversations feel increasingly shallow and transactional, even in communities I care about. I miss the feeling of a real connection, but I’m not sure if that’s just the nature of how we communicate now or if I’m doing something wrong.

I’ve started noticing these chats feel a little hollow too. It’s like we’re streaming updates instead of sharing something personal. I miss real connection. I’ve tried asking open ended questions and sharing a small story instead of a one liner, and the replies were uneven, which was disheartening.

Same here. I post something and get a string of quick likes or a one word answer, and that’s it.

Maybe it’s fatigue from the medium: algorithms push brevity because it’s easy, people skim, schedules are tight. I ran a tiny test, tried inviting longer thoughts with a specific prompt, and the responses shifted a bit but not deeper. Hard to read the signal.

Is the problem the platform or our expectations, or am I chasing something that isn’t there anymore?
