Why does blood pressure medicine cause a dry cough and what can be done?
#1
I’ve been on the same blood pressure medication for years, but lately I’ve noticed a persistent dry cough that my doctor thinks might be linked to it. I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced this side effect and how you discussed it with your doctor, especially if you needed to stay on a similar type of drug.

I had a dry cough after years on an ACE inhibitor. It started slowly and stuck around, and my doctor said that cough is a possible side effect for some people.

We talked about staying on a similar drug, and we switched to an ARB. The cough faded after a couple of weeks and my blood pressure stayed in the target range.

I also tried non drug stuff, like a humidifier at night, warm tea, throat lozenges, and keeping a log of when the cough showed up. It helped me feel less blindsided, even if it didn’t fix it right away.

I’m still unsure if the cough is the med or something else like allergies, so I asked whether we should stay in the same family or try a different option. Do you think the cough is really the med or something else?
