Why does keratosis pilaris flare up and can it ever clear completely?
#1
I’ve been dealing with these small, rough patches of skin on the back of my arms for years, and my doctor just called it keratosis pilaris. I’ve tried various lotions, but nothing seems to make the bumps and redness go away completely. I’m just wondering if this is something I’ll always have, or if there’s a point where it might actually clear up for good.

I remember my dermatologist told me it’s keratosis pilaris, and I’ve had those tiny rough patches on my arms for years too. Some days they’re barely noticeable, other times the redness sticks around and it can feel stubborn, especially in winter.

I’ve tried a bunch of lotions and thick ointments, plus products with urea or lactic acid. They helped a little, smoothing the surface for a week or two, but the bumps never vanished for good.

I’m not sure there’s a clean ending here. Some people say it softens with age or when you settle into a routine, but others stay the same for life. I guess you keep hoping and see what a year of trying different things does.

Could there be another issue behind the bumps, like irritation from detergent or a reaction to laundry soap?
