Why does liking every story feel like cheapening my connections?
#1
I just realized I’ve been automatically tapping the heart on almost every story my close friends post, even the ones where they’re just complaining about traffic or showing a blurry pet photo. It feels completely mindless and I’m wondering if that constant, low-effort interaction is actually making our connections feel cheaper.

Yeah, I did that too. It became a reflex to tap hearts on almost everything, even the traffic and blurry pet pics. It started to feel hollow, signaling presence without saying anything real.

I once tried a day without tapping the heart and only commented when I actually felt something. It was awkward at first, but I noticed I cared more about what I said than the count.

Now I pause before tapping. If I don’t have a real reaction, I scroll on by. It’s clunky, but it keeps me from cheapening the moment.

Do you think maybe the issue isn’t the taps at all but the pattern of reacting to every little thing?

I kept thinking about the last time someone wrote a long caption and I still tapped anyway. Then I wondered if I’m valuing their words or just the gesture. Anyway, I still tap some posts, but less mindlessly.

I’m not sure what the right move is. I want to show I care without turning everything into a cheap signal.
