Why does mobile network standby drain my phone battery even on strong signal?
#1
My new phone’s battery drains almost 20% overnight with everything closed and Wi-Fi off. I checked the battery usage stats and the biggest culprit seems to be the mobile network standby function, which is using an unusual amount of power even though I have a strong signal. I’m not sure if this is a software bug or something wrong with my specific unit.

That happened to me with a new phone too. network standby can pull power even when nothing is on. I updated the system and turned off 5G in the network settings; the overnight drain eased but didn’t vanish.

I did a full reset of the network settings, rebooted, and checked for updates. After that the standby usage was smaller and the battery lasted through a night where it would have died before.

Maybe it’s not the phone but the SIM or carrier. I tried swapping the SIM with another phone and saw the drain move, so I paused on assuming the phone is faulty.

Do you still see that spike if you put the phone on airplane mode overnight for a test?
