Why does my car pull left when braking hard on the highway?

I’ve noticed my car pulls to the left pretty consistently, but only when I’m braking at higher speeds, like on a highway off-ramp. It feels fine under normal stopping around town. I’m trying to figure out if this is something simple like a stuck caliper or if it points to a more serious issue with the suspension or alignment.

That sounds exactly like something I ran into. Normal stops felt fine, but at higher speed braking it pulled left. In my case it turned out to be a sticking caliper causing uneven braking. It was a real nuisance, but it pointed to a mechanical brake issue rather than the steering.

Start with the easy checks: pump up both tires to the same pressure, look for any uneven wear, and make sure wheels are balanced. If those look fine, you’re into brakes or suspension territory.

I had something similar and the shop found uneven rotor wear and a sticking piston in one brake. After replacing the worn parts and doing a bleed, the left pull dropped but it came back on heavy braking, so I still kept an eye on it.

Highway ramps with road crown can exaggerate braking behavior, so sometimes what you feel is not purely a brake problem. But if it stays only when you brake hard, it’s still worth a check. Have you noticed this only on highways or on gentle curves too?
