Why does my fine hair with a lot of it still fall flat for a textured look?

I’ve been trying to get my hair to hold a textured, piecey look, but no matter what I use, it falls flat or gets crunchy within an hour. My hair is fine but there’s a lot of it, and I feel like I’m missing a key step in my routine.

I get where you’re coming from. My hair is fine but I have a ton of it, and if I use anything too heavy it just collapses. I tried a lightweight mousse, a sea salt spray, then diffused with cool air, but by noon it was flat. I did notice that if I avoid applying product at the roots and only work a small amount through mid lengths, it holds longer.

Yeah I had crunch problems too. A strong hold gel made it stiff and brittle after an hour, then the crunch faded in the afternoon. I swapped to a flexible holding spray and started scrunching as it dries, and the hold lasted a bit longer, though not perfect.

Maybe the real problem isn’t the products at all but the technique. I used to brush through while drying and it knocked the shape out. I started pinching sections as I dried and letting it set, and the piecey bits stuck longer. Do you think the timing matters?

I kept it simple: a light spray to lift the look, diffused on low heat, and I waited for it to set before touching it again. It helped a bit, but it never lasted the day.
