Why does my game crash to desktop exactly five minutes in with a DirectX error?

My game keeps crashing to desktop exactly five minutes into every session, like clockwork. I’ve checked the Event Viewer and it’s throwing a consistent DirectX error related to the graphics driver, but I’m on the latest version. Has anyone else had this kind of predictable timing with their crashes?

Yep I had a very similar clockwork crash five minutes in. I tried tightening the GPU boost a bit and letting the fans run cooler. After that the crashes eased though the fix did not feel fully reliable.

Try a clean driver reinstall not just an update. Use a removal tool to wipe the old driver then reboot and install a fresh copy. Disable overlays and game capture during testing. The DirectX error in event viewer can hide behind driver cache so a clean start helped me once

Is five minutes really the trigger or could another task in the background line up with that moment. Maybe a memory check or leak shows up at warmup. I keep wondering if the timer is a red herring

I also blamed the game at first then I started checking hardware. I cleaned dust and swapped a cable or two. I even tried a different power supply and removed a USB hub that seemed to draw a bit more power under load. The timing kept changing but the crashes did not scream the same cause
