Why does my Instagram feed make my real friendships feel shallow?
#1
I just realized my Instagram feed is almost entirely people I haven't actually spoken to in years. I scroll through their vacations and life updates, and it feels like I'm keeping up, but it's making my real friendships feel strangely shallow.

I did a quick unfollow sweep last month, dropped about a dozen accounts, and kept only a few that actually feel real. It shaved minutes off my scrolling, but I still catch myself comparing trips and outfits.

Sometimes I catch myself scrolling at red lights or between chores, and it hits me how thin the updates feel. I’ve started texting an old friend instead of double tapping, and the conversations are way warmer.

I tried turning off push notifications and set a 30 minute cap on social per day. The first week I felt restless, then a day later I forgot it even existed. Not a miracle, but a tiny pause.

Do you think the issue is the feed or your real friendships?
