Why does my partner shut down for days after a small disagreement?
#1
My boyfriend and I have been together for over a year, and I’ve started to notice he gets really quiet and shuts down for days whenever we have a minor disagreement. It’s not even about big things, just normal couple stuff like making weekend plans. This silent treatment leaves me feeling completely confused and anxious, unsure if the issue is resolved or if he’s just waiting for me to drop it.

I’ve been there, and the silence after a small disagreement can feel like a door slammed shut.

We tried talking after a day or two, not in the heat, and it helped a bit when he explained he felt overwhelmed by tiny issues.

It can make you doubt yourself and wonder if you should back off to keep the peace.

We did set a loose rule about taking a break when things get heated, but it didn’t always stop the quiet.

Maybe the pattern isn’t about the plans so much as his fear of conflict or losing control.

I started journaling what I wanted to say and then we read it together; sometimes it shifted the tone.

Do you think his silence is the real issue or is it about something else?
