Why does the map freeze for a few seconds every time i open it?

My game keeps freezing for a solid two or three seconds every time I open the map, and it’s making navigation a real pain. I’ve noticed it happens without fail, even on the lowest settings, and I’m not sure what’s causing this specific stutter.

I had this on a midrange rig where the map would stall for a couple seconds as new areas loaded from disk. It happened even on the lowest settings, so I figured it was streaming data not GPU power.

Could be a memory spike or texture streaming grabbing a lot at once the moment you open the map, which reminds me I once found a stray temp file left over from a patch and that slowed things for a day.

I tried verifying the game files and updating drivers and nothing changed for me, so I started to doubt it was the game at all.

Is it possible the map thing is masking a bigger issue like a background updater or antivirus scanning while you move around?
